Medical ID App DESCRIPTION

Medical ID allows creating medical profiles that are accessible from your lock screen. In case of emergency, profiles enable quick access to vital information such as your allergies, blood type, medical contacts, etc. that are essential to attending first responders, medics, or medical staff having to take action. You can also share your location with emergency contacts even when the app is closed (for up to 24 hours or until you stop sharing).

The display and access of your medical information from your lock screen are made possible via an accessibility service to enable and that is part of the core features of the app. Once enabled, the accessibility service displays a widget over your lock screen. This widget helps people who have disabilities, or first responders in case of emergency, to take action and access medical data.

This is the free version of the app. Upgrading to the premium version gives you access to more features and help us to maintain the app and add features. Please note the upgrade is required only once in your lifetime!a

Although I like the contents of this app, it has one bug that drives me crazy. In the past week or so, the app banner on the lock screen does not display. I can go into settings and temporarily fix the issue. But by the end of the day I have to do it all over again. Without the lock screen access, the app is little more than a notepad to organize ones medical info

Hello, Thanks for your feedback. Recent devices include "battery optimizations" that kill third-party apps like Medical ID under multiple conditions. I suggest following what is explained on the next link to ensure such optimizations do not affect the app: https://dontkillmyapp.com/ Have a nice day.

Linda

Love this app. I no longer have to rely on my memory of Rx , surgical dates, or carry/update papers. Great tool when filling out forms. It’s well laid out with plenty of room to edit or add descriptions. Simply enter your info accurately one time and this important info will always be at your fingertips. Emergency no problem, just show them your phone, the app has the option to float on top of your locked phone for medical personell access. Did I mention it's 100% FREE. It's a no brainer!

Amanda

Buggy and spammed 911! First I was just having issues with the app not showing up on the lock screen for my phone. But I got a rude awakening to find out that the app had texted 911 nearly a dozen times without my knowledge! The police showed up at my house and asked if I was OK. Definitely unnerving. I uninstalled the app immediately and recommend others check too!

Elizabet..

I have significant medical issues. This is easy to set up and use. It sits on my lock screen so vital medical info can be accessed without allowing open access to the rest of my phone. The doctors I have shown it to, including in the ER have been impressed. The only feature that I would like to see is the ability to add profiles for those that I care for.
----------
Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for your feedback. Is there something I can do in order to get a 5 stars rating? Have a nice day. Laurent

Anshel

This app does not have a way to reinstall the free app and upgrade the premium app that was already paid for. The app requires the premium upgrade to be Uninstaller, which causes the Free version to be uninstalled too. I don't know if I paid more than one time. It would be helpful to be able to install this app (when paid for the premium version), without having to pay more than once. Most developers have something to click on if you have already paid.
----------
Hi Anshel, The license is managed by Google Play Store. To reinstall the premium version of the app without paying again for the one time fee, you need to authenticate on the Play store with the same email address as the one used when you made your initial purchase. Then, on the Play store, you will see an "Install" button instead of a "Buy" one.

Karen

I like that I can add notes about allergies, meds, contacts, but I wish I could format the content with bullets or numbers and highlight, instead of it being one long block of info. In an emergency when someone is skimming content, bullets make it easier to review and highlighting can callout identify important info. Not sure what the purpose of the BMI messaging other than a slap in the face to anyone not at a perfect height and weight according to medical standards. Not a diagnostic tool.

SgtLowCr..

The app no longer appears on the lock screen which defeats the purpose of having the medical information available to first responders. Instead, the app displays a small, rather annoying, icon on the edge of the screen while actively using the phone. Unfortunately, the small icon does nothing and the only way to open the app is from the standard icon. Very disappointed.

Could use some improvements down the road, but it is free and there is a lot of flexibility in use. The fact that you can have access on a locked screen is perfect. If you are unconscious, the EMT/ER people can get your basic medical info on you without having access to the rest of your phone. In future, I would like to see formatted area for existing conditions, emergency contacts, medications, allergies, etc. Can't say I have even seen an ad, so if they are there, they are subtle.

This review is for the free version of this app. I installed it approximately 5 years ago. I have really liked this app from the very beginning. It DID have a few glitches where the widget disappeared from the lock screen. That seems to have been fixed for quite some time. I have multiple chronic illnesses and have had a myriad of surgeries and procedures over the years and it is so handy to have all of that info in addition to all of my meds in one place. I'm upgrading to the premium version.

JA

Easy to use & update, plus it's free (unlike, say, a medical ID wristband). You can put a floating icon, bar or second layer on your lock screen *if* you want to give a third party (such as ambulance personnel) immediate access to your medical details. There's plenty of room in the information boxes to add/change/delete things as they change (prescriptions, etc), and you can link to your relatives, health care providers and others from your contacts. I really like this app. Thx!

Gary

I like the ability to have my medical information available in case I am disabled. Fortunately I have not had to rely on it yet. OnOne recommendation would be to have a button to push to display the information. Having to push the edit button to display is not intuitive and could slightly delay someone obtaining the needed information.

Kirsti

This is app is great and free. Wonderful for people with health issues. Whenever staff need info, I just hand it to them. In an emergency, they can access info stat from the screen. It will auto unlock. Highly recommend. Interestingly enough, when on Google maps, I can see the med tag moving with me. Lol. Almost as if they will know I have it. Not sure if that is the case, but it is great. :-)

Naquat

A great concept for an app, that does it's job well. But there are two tweaks that need to be made. First of all, it is extremely difficult to double tap the widget on the lock screen because it moves so easily when touched. There should be a way to lock it in place after positioning. Secondly, it should have a way to synch or link to your pharmacy account so that your meds are listed and updated automatically. Otherwise, I really appreciate it.
----------
Hi Naquat. Thanks for your feedback. There is an option in the app settings to freeze the widget position. Please contact me by email at contact@medicalid.app if you need step by step instructions (replies have length limitation here). What pharmacy account are you using? It looks quite unmanageable to handle this worldwide.

Ghost

DO NOT INSTALL THIS APP UNLESS YOU WANT TO FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE. Looked like an awesome app. Entered my info without a problem, appeared on the lock screen like it was supposed to. Then my phone crashed, shut down, and attempting to restart it caused it to freeze during boot. After going into factory mode and shutting down/rebooting the device multiple times it still froze every time and I was forced to do a complete factory reset. I have spent the last two hours fixing my phone. The only change I made was installing this app, the phone was perfectly fine before. Zero stars. I have heart problems and need a working phone, not only was this inconvenient it could have potentially been fatal as I could not even access the emergency call function until I had done a complete factory reset. Not just a bad app, but potentially dangerous for anyone who actually has a medical condition.
----------
Third-party apps such as Medical ID are isolated from the Android System so it is quite weird Medical ID crashes your device by itself. Would you mind sharing what your device and Android version are? I tried to reproduce the problem you mention on Android 5.1, 8 and 9 without success. Any information would be really helpful. Thanks.

Chelsea

I love it. I have quite a lot of health and mental problems, so I take a lot of medications as well. The thing is, I have Short-term memory loss and before I found this app, I kept a notebook with me listing every little thing I needed to remember about my health, meds, etc. My meds always changed, doctors changed, it was a pain to keep everything organized. This app does that for you. This helps me so much. Thank you for a great app!

Jess

Has a good concept and idea, but it has the widget placed right on the time/date on your lock screen. I look at that on my phone often and cannot have something blocking it. I tried changing my time settings but it doesn't give a option to move my clock anywhere else. I tried to move the banner, but of course that costs money. Seems pretty purposely placed in a bad spot so people will pay to move it. I'm uninstalling and finding a better app.
----------
Hi Jess, Thanks for your feedback. You can move the widget position with the free version of the app. Simply press, hold and move the widget where you prefer. Is there something else we can do to get a 5 stars rating? Have a nice day.

Great app, I've been looking for a way to get my medical information and emergency contact information really available on my lock screen and this app does everything perfectly. The developer has really put some thought and care into this app to make it the best. I love the floating widget on my lock screen, works perfectly on my Galaxy S8 -- stands out while not making the screen cluttered or trashy looking. Great job! Thank you!

Lucy

I have upgraded my previous rating but am withholding the final star until I find out why this is happening: I recently opted to place the icon above my PIN pad. Twice now, an alarm has sounded when I'm nowhere near my phone, but only once did I get to it in time to turn off. Then, I got a text asking if there was an emergency. No. Five minutes later, two cops are standing there. It definately works! Have there been other reports of spontaneous triggering?
----------
Hi Lucy. Thanks for your feedback. Accidental and successive taps on your device may trigger an alert. The app requires at least 2 taps so its unlikely that it happens but it may as you experienced. If you want you can remove the alert icon to prevent such an issue: open the app settings (https://youtu.be/jndE68B4G0U) and go to "Advanced Settings".

Erik

floating icon appears and flashes when trying to enter a passcode on my phone. other than that, great app! i personally liked the long notification across lockscreen vs the button. maybe make in a option in free version? UPDATE: so options are added but only for premium version? i at least liked the transparency option before update. dropping 1 star.

nanbrum5..

This allows me to include as much information as I need. Love that. Complaints: I have gotten several texts and a phone call on separate occasions from 911 asking what my emergency is and do I really need help. I did not initiate any of those contacts. Also, when initially setting up and entering all my information, if I paused for a moment too long and the screen went black, everything I had already entered was gone and I had to completely start over. Why can't it save as you go?!
