I don't want to be too harsh, but lately it has seemed like Google WANTS me to switch to... that other option. Chromecast can be great, when it works. But the success rate is embarrassingly low. I have spent A LOT of money being loyal to Google. But devices say they are playing music when they are not, albums are not listed in any logical order, videos work or don't, no genre sorting anymore, uploads are completely separate... I could go on. PLEASE can't it just WORK more consistently? Thanks...

Richard

Thanks for responding, Google bot or person. I checked the link and yes I have 3 border routers, one right next to the lorex 4k+ NVR. I don't know if someone changed something or what, but it just magically started working after 4 weeks & hours of frustration. I'd like to see the light in siren controllable separately. As of now they both come on at the same time. I guess the key to getting stuff fixed is to write a bad review, worked for me.🤷 Leaving my review at two stars due to all the 😖

Pointless app, downloaded as setting up my new TV was meant to be faster and easier with it. It wasn't. After over an hour of trying to connect, resetting, turning devices on and off the TV is connected but the app doesn't see it, tried to set up every time, waste of time. At the end I set the TV up in seconds without using Google home. Thanks for waisting my time with your rubbish app.
----------
Hey Mateusz, we're sorry you had to go through this. If you change your mind, we'd suggest reinstalling your Google Home app and connecting both devices to 2.4 Ghz if you have a dual band network. For more help, visit: https://goo.gle/3ie15Ae

Jorge

When viewing cameras, the volume control adjusts call volume instead of media volume. Not sure how to change this. Also, when viewing cameras i would prefer that the app not put my phone into "call" mode. It's annoying to change the volume and when connected to my car bluetooth doesn't "hang up" when I'm done looking at my camera, which prevents audio from continuing being played on my car radio. I have to force the app to close to continue listening to the radio.

If you can get it to work it's good but wastes way too much time for it to be worth it. The amount of time I've spent trying to fix issues with this could have been spent working to buy a smart TV instead of a Chromecast. I've uninstalled the home app and the Chromecast shows on the TV however I get messages saying the device was set up by another user (false) and I need to factory reset my device. UPDATE - After uninstalling app, and Chromecast and rebooting phone all simultaneously it worked

Most of the time this app is useless. Vast majority of the time the app doesn't show any speakers as connected, or else doesn't allow me to cast to multiple speakers even if it does show them as connected (the option just isn't there). I have spent hours of my life troubleshooting over and over & tried just about every "fix" out there. The Google speakers were a total waste of money & usually more trouble than benefit. EDIT: I have tried ALL the fixes. Countless times.
----------
Hey Kai, thanks for the review. We recommend restarting your devices including your router to refresh their connection. If the issue persists, try resetting your device to its default settings and see if it works. If you still need help, reach us via phone, chat, and other social media channels here: https://goo.gle/3ie15Ae?

It looks to me that Google isn't spending very much time trying to develop the bugs out of their Google home automation hardware or software anymore. I own most of Google's home automation & security products and what I see is a steady decline in their ability to make any of it function as they have advertised. I've been a Google fan since the beginning of computing but I am at the point where I have to say enough is enough. I'm slowly getting out...no more Google for me!

it keeps putting the wrong video feed into the wrong box on the screen. they are SECURITY CAMERAS meaning if I'm looking for it, it's a matter of security. not hunt for the proper feed and hope I get it. Edit: tapping on a favorite or long pressing gives me exactly the same screen. Black with a gear icon and an overflow in the right corner. That's it. Edit2: they are all already favorites.

Horrible user interface. It was much better when you can add cameras, lights, etc. Now that functionality is gone in favor of finding devices. You can't even reset devices unless they are added causing issues with ensuring smooth connectivity. I don't know why Google is so incapable of creating a good whole home app, but nest was better.

Marco

Edit Accidentally deleted my TV from the devices list, the app can't find it even though location services are all on. I tried to contact support, after waiting in line for over an hour I had the most useless person telling me to contact Sony, instead of offering solutions. Edit: I've tried all of those things. Still nothing. However, it's now allowing me to cast from an app (eg Disney Plus) and if I open the home app it shows as playing on the TV, yet it still doesn't show in devices.
----------
Hey Marco, we're sorry to hear about your support experience. We'd suggest opening Phone settings > All apps > Tap Google Home app > Tap Permission > Turn on. Also, reinstalling your Google Home app might help. Check this out: https://goo.gle/374618v For more help, visit: https://goo.gle/3ie15Ae

When I first started using Google Home it was amazing because you could set different reminders for yourself and it has a routine feature, so you can set up great alarms and different automations to go along with it making the overall experience enjoyable... Until you want to undo or delete a routine that you have already set. For whatever reason there's no way to undo anything or delete anything once you set it in place I don't think Google thought this through. Especially with the new update.

it's pretty good with fairly easy to use, and the setup isn't too bad either. my only issue right now is that it's having a hard time controlling all of the systems in my home and the hub that I have seems to be a little laggy there seems to be some communication issues trying to navigate everything through Google. for quick actions it's okay but for more complex routines I have to use the apps individually
----------
We hear you, Maurice. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback. You might want to unplug your Google device together with your router for 2 minutes to refresh. You can also reinstall your Google Home app to update its settings. For more help, visit: https://goo.gle/3ie15Ae

I keep trying to access the "device settings" for my chromecast, and it takes me to a blank screen with a back button. No settings load. I have already tried reinstalling the app, restarting my phone, I even tried factory resetting my chromecast. The response from Google to try these things is just an excuse for their software products being buggy and poorly written. If it's not directly costing them money, they won't fix it. Attn Google: are you actually reading my review? The fixes don't work
----------
Hey Emma, help's here! Try reinstalling your Google Home app, and force closing other apps in the background. You can also unplug your router, TV, and Chromecast from the power source for 2 minutes to refresh. Make sure they’re within 15-20 feet of each other. For more help, visit: https://goo.gle/2F5Xq9P

Good but only if you stay in one place. I move apartments and I still can't set them up on the new wifi and it's really hard not to wanna throw out my phone and smart devices. It won't connect to the lights nor help conect them to the new WiFi. The help menus are ok to a small measure because they are for new devices. I'm sick and tired of resetting everything when I move and having to struggle for 6 months before I can get it working again so good, but could be better.

Cleared the cache, uninstalled/reinstalled! Unusable! Especially with Google's own products! If I create stereo pairs, they can't be added to speaker groups! I just get an error about how some devices can't be added to more than one group! I've had to set up multiple Google devices more than once because the home app fails to configure them properly! Volume controls don't work most of the time! Often the app says that the device isn't on the WiFi network... I could go on and on! 🤬
----------
We’re sorry to hear about this, Jonathan. Try clearing the cache and cookies of the Google Home app, then reinstalling it. Rebooting your router and devices for two minutes might help. Also, make sure that your phone and apps are up-to-date. For more assistance, feel free to reach out to us here: https://goo.gle/3ie15Ae

The Google Home experience has gotten progressively worse the longer I've used it. I can't even tell it to pause/stop music reliability. What makes it worse is that I can't even reliably use the app to do simple things like that anymore. The pause button does nothing. I have to "stop casting" to get music to stop playing. Edit for Feedback: That frequently doesn't work. It seems as if it's processing that "Stop"or "Stop playing" request and the continues playing.

Horrible user interface, extremely difficult to understand, doesn't make sense and definitely would NEVER recommend to anyone. I have years of experience with smart home products, especially with Samsung, and the Google Home app is just awful in every way. I've tried from time to time to make use of the Google Home app with the same results. Also, Google 1 subscribed phone support is beyond a disaster. When calling, I get transferred 5+ times because agents have no clue what they're doing.AWFUL

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person experiencing the app going "down". For the past 2 days, my device says it can't connect to the wifi. I thought I had on parental controls but, I didn't. I deleted the device to reconnect it but now, it can't even find my wifi even though my wi-fi is there! I even tried to connect manually and it's as if this device just doesn't believe I have wifi. It's EXTREMELY frustrating. And it keeps telling me it can't connect every 3 minutes!!!

Works ok. But I keep singing up for the membership. But It's like I have to do it every month for some reason. And the clips it saves should be longer. I had to save a 10-minute clip, and it's broken up into 4 videos 🙄 needs some up dates for sure. Also, the new update is no good. You got to tern your cameras on and off every time in order to get the sound to work. Also, to save a video, wow, they make it so hard to find that on the app. For the money paid they should and do so much better

Based on my experience, given the alternatives that are available, I believe that the Home app is a cut above them all despite the challenges. I have seen many improvements with the app and it's performance. I have also learned that when the app is behaving "glitchy" its because work is being done on it behind the scenes. Do I get frustrated at time? You bet I do, but it ain't greener elsewhere.
