Google News – Daily Headlines

Hit or miss with opening news articles. I often times just have to go pull up the actual website once I know what article I want. I get notified of new news but the feed doesn't refresh. It's often stuck on the same stories and take a couple of refresher before it goes through. Yes, it does get stuck on previous days too. It's not just that there isn't anything new. Really do like that I can get full coverage on stories so I don't have to pay for certain websites reporting.

The app is more than great but it has some flaws that make my experience less enjoyable: the widget is so buggy! The first thing I do when I wake up is read the top five news but the widget is always blank wich makes me click on it and spend a lot of time reading through everything. There's also a problem with articles; when you click on them you are on a default browser without your user credentials, meaning that your accounts and subscriptions are gone. Please work on it. Great news aggregator... Great data killer. I've turned off autoplay and enabled data saver, and it's still churning through my data. Autoplay ads are the worst culprit (frequently several on one page). Seems like it just happened this past month. Will only use when on wifi from now on. Update: Downgrading to 1 star (from 2) because the autoplay ads are just horrendous, and blocked sources keep sneaking through via other sources. Going to look for a better option.

Many news doesn't open in the app. It shows error - content decoding failed, something like this. But if I copy the link and open in chrome, it works. 2nd problem is that news are not order by date. Many older news are shown first and newer below them. This could have been the best news app, as it displays news from various good sources but NO, google always supports mediocrity, the fit app, this news app, all of them are bad. Don't know what the developers are doing as these are fundamentals.

Every time I reinstall this app, I'm soon reminded why I keep uninstalling it. I Don't care for sports stories, but can't keep Google from serving them up. No matter how many times I thumb down or choose not to see stories about whatever sports team from whatever sports website, they still bubble up. If Google hasn't yet figured out, I don't care for sports news, or other topics, then there is really something fundamentally wrong with their entire search philosophy. Fail.

If I'm trying to open a link to Twitter or YouTube from a news article, it should bring me directly to the app or an external browser. Having to press "view original web page" and then the find the link again is annoying. Secondly, notifications should never include pay-walled articles. It's annoying pressing a notification for a news story just to see that the article I was about to read requires a subscription. Also needs the ability to un-save ALL (or multiple) saved stories.

Decent app for news articles, but of course as with many apps today, the ads completely ruin everything. With the amount of money Google makes, it blows my mind that they still absolutely destroy the user's experience with ads in every pixel of space. I'm not kidding when I say that on my big S22+ screen, the article I was reading was about an inch of screen, the rest was just ads. Two separate video ads were playing, and there were at least 2 pictures ads throughout the article.

app has gotten worse. the preferences and "show less of options" don't work as i have spent the last several days saying over and over that i don't want to see certain content and it never fails to show back up. you are forced to see what ever is popular with others and get no say in what you see in your news feed. Just updated my review so that it is known that the same issue that has always persist continues to.

The app itself is a great way to find personalized news content and articles but the built-in browser ruins the app. If you accidentally click on an ad and you want to go back to the article you're reading it either returns to the top of the article or sends you to the app's homepage. By using the AMP browser, a lot of website functionality stops working. I do wish that it had a more readily available browsing history.

I have used this app for years but I finally uninstalled. It is beyond any reasonable thinking to now make it so difficult to read articles when more than 50% of the screen on my phone is dedicated to ads, popups, layering ads and videos that jump out at me. I'm out of here. So disappointing. I hope others follow suit.

I constantly get articles that are days and sometimes weeks old, but if I refresh it I constantly get articles that are days and sometimes weeks old. So, there's that. No matter how many times I say I'm not interest in certain types of stories, they still show up. Pretty poor experience all-around. Widget is trash and can't resize it either...

Each revision I look forward to seeing this app get better but it never does. No matter how many times a day I check it, it's constantly showing different old news and old sales and old weather. I don't need last weekend's weather forecast on Monday. I don't need great flash sales 2+ days too late. And no matter how many times I block a topic it shows more versions of it. Clearing cache isn't a solution. Nothing is

I don't want to watch videos, and there's no option to avoid videos and videos aren't labeled. It's like 1/5 of the content is videos which leads to a very frustrating experience. Additionally I frequently see days old articles, I cannot fathom the logic behind this. I'll scroll by an uninteresting article or unlabeled video only for it to appear again several days later. The app is essentially useless beyond one or two views a day.

Pretty good way to be in touch with current events, either in the United States or abroad. Seems to be very ad heavy, so it might just be my experience that needs to be adjusted. (Lots of poor, non-relevant ad content) Perhaps with more use, it will change to how and what I want to look for. For now, 4/5 but could easily get better with daily use and algorithm tuning.

App freezes a lot and won't open stories. Pretty useless at this point. Heard from developers. I do not want to have to turn off my phone or restart every time I want to read the news. I clear the cache, but I read 2 stories and it won't open the next one. I have deleted and reinstalled the app but it only resolved it for a short while. It is not a problem on my Apple device. Only a provlem in Android. Not acceptable.

App is great, but it has a great drawback that it doesn't provide much functionality to save your favorite items in a proper and multifunctional interface. It has to have either a pocket or Instapaper like in-built saving option to help researchers, students and journalists. That function is available in other apps like Flipboard. Though that isn't great too. Pocket and Instapaper are best in that segment. Yet, those are outside options. If U had same function in this app, I won't switch.

Never seems to refresh. I can open the news article and read it; think, logically it should go away. It doesn't. I have had the same news article showing up continuously on my news feed for 2 weeks every single day without fail. Even when I have marked it as do not show or even trying to block that news service, the same article on that service keeps showing up. What do I have to do in order to get current events in a news feed from someone who's supposed to be a global leader in information?

No option for changing font size. Too small to read on certain screen sizes. Also, you can't zoom in. The same problem in the article pages after you click. This is far more serious. One plus point -- the dev replied to this review really quickly. It surprised me. Not sure if that was an automated response nor will they actually consume my review and fix the issue though. Still, there are many Google app developers who don't even bother with reviews so it looks like the News team is better.

App crashes just sitting idle, or minimizes itself, which triggers the app to refresh the articles causing me to lose what I was reading. Used to love this app for it's news, but now it either closes itself out, or minimizes itself out which as stated in my review, refreshes the articles causing me to lose my place. Stop wasting money and time fixing the wrong things or making it look better, and fix the actual bugs. No one cares about how pretty an app looks just as long as it works correctly.

This app is extremely slow and glitchy on my Samsung a10e. If I open a news article, the app tries to re open the same article again like 5-6 times after I am done reading it! The same link just opens up over and over and over despite having moved on to other articles elsewhere. The Google news experience in Chrome works flawlessly, but the app is awful.
