WHAT'S NEW
With our latest update to Call Screen on Pixel devices in the US, the Google Assistant now helps you automatically screen unknown callers and filter out detected robocalls before your phone ever rings. And when it’s not a robocall, your phone rings a few moments later with helpful context about who is calling and why.
Phone by Google App SCREENSHOT
Phone by Google App DESCRIPTION
Google’s official phone calling app is now available to download for the first time. Phone helps you easily connect with family and friends, block spam callers, and know who’s calling before you answer – all with a simple, intuitive design.
Powerful spam protection
See warnings about suspicious callers that help you avoid unwanted calls from spammers, telemarketers and scammers. Block numbers to prevent them from calling you again.
Know who’s calling you
Google’s extensive caller ID coverage lets you know the business that’s calling so that you can answer with confidence.
No more waiting on hold 1, 5
Hold for Me lets you go back to your day. If a business puts you on hold, Google Assistant can wait on the line for you and let you know when someone is ready to talk.
Screen unknown callers 1, 2
Call Screen answers unknown callers, filters out detected spammers without interrupting you, and helps you learn more about callers you don’t recognize before you pick up.
Visual voicemail 1, 3
Check your messages without needing to call your voicemail – view and play them in any order, read transcriptions, and delete or save them right from the app.
Call recording 1
Record your phone calls to capture important information for reference later. Everyone hears a disclosure when the recording starts so they’re aware, and recordings are saved on your phone.
Intuitive design
Our simple, lightweight design keeps your favorite people just a tap away. Plus, switch to dark mode to save battery and reduce eye strain at night.
Emergency support 1, 4
See your current location when you make an emergency call, and share information about the assistance you require, along with your location, to the emergency operator without speaking.
Phone app is available on most Android devices running Android™ 9.0 and above.

Phone screening by Google no longer works. I never see transcripts from caller that is being screened. This used to work great, but updates have caused serious issues. As of 2/24/23 the same issue continues.. I cannot see what caller is saying to me. This used to work, but not for the past few months. I wish I could go back to my Verizon Wireless phone app. It always worked well.

Hi, Lew. Have a look at this guide on how Call Screening works: https://goo.gle/2ysrXf3. If you are still experiencing issues, please submit feedback within the Phone app by tapping the three dot menu in the top right corner - Help & Feedback - Send Feedback. Thank you.
Extremely buggy on pixel 7 pro. Not sure if this is a bug with android or just the phone app, but the phone app is basically useless at this point for informing me of an incoming call. I can have volume on full and phone vibration on and I get neither. All I get is the caller displayed on the screen, which means if I'm not looking the first indication I get of a call is the vibration of the missed call alert. I'd chalk it up to a hardware problem, but all non Google apps work fine.

Hi, Billy. We're sorry to hear that. Let's try resetting the app data. More information, please refer to "Clear the app's cache" section by clicking the following link: https://goo.gl/gX7ctA. Hope this helps!
Recently there's been a delay in the "screen call" button when I get a call. It shows 2 options, answer or decline. When I go to click answer, it suddenly changes to "screen call" and there is no option to cancel the screening. it's always a contact number so I don't even know why you think I'd need to screen my mom for example.
I had to change my default phone app as in recent times, I was unable to answer some calls. It happens every time for specific phone numbers, other numbers are okay. It is awkward that a phone can't be used for its main purpose. And what makes it even weirder is that it happens on my Pixel 6 Pro, Google's very own reference Android phone.

I have updated to the latest version of the app and currently using it on Android 13 in a realme device. The search bar in phone app is not at all working. I have to manually find all contacts by swiping to the end. I have tried resetting the app data as well as clearing cache. Still the issue persists. In addition to that now i dont receive call from second sim.

The best phone app. Google filters all spam. Search for unknown phone numbers by typing the name of the place like restaurant and the phone number is picked by the app through Google map. All functions like call waiting, forwarding are present but it's a bit difficult to find them.
Call history of more than 2 months old gets deleted automatically. Unable to resolve the issue after all solutions on the internet. Have also given this as a feedback within the app long ago, but i don't see any change. Call history are still getting deleted automatically. Also, i have not included any storage limit in any settings for the app. The "storage" option is not even available in the permissions.
Not intuitive at all. I've yet to figure out how to answer a call and easily put the call on speaker. It shows the keypad on bottom half of screen as if you want to dial. It has a small icon above for the call you're on. Tap that icon and brings up small box with your call now muted. Have to unmute the call, the tap speaker. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Almost every incoming call is someone who can't hear me and hangs up. Horrible app.

When I try making or answering a phone call, the volume is really loud and the volume buttons do not change it. I can go into the phone App settings, turn accessibility on and then back off and everything works well until I restart my phone, then I have to go through the process again. I have found many threads online about this issue, each saying that Google is aware of the problem, but a year later many customers are still having the same issue. This is on a Pixel 6A.

Hi, Kevin. Thanks for reaching out. This seems to be a device-specific concern. For the best help, reach out to your device manufacturer. Hope this helps!
Multiple calls dropped while standing in my kitchen talking to my friend at her home. I'm not sure if it's service related to Google or the latest Android update. My phone also freezes and closing the screen is the only fix. I've started to power off or restart my phone daily, but not seeing much improvement in performance. I may have to consider going back to a main carrier if this type of un - reliability continues.

I've continuously faced an issue. whenever I get a call from someone while I'm using the phone, it never shows up on notification or bubble notification, my phone starts ringing but I could see any call on my screen. And the delay lasts up to 30-40 sec. Sometimes I could pick up the call & the call got disconnected. I've already complained about it but didn't get any reply from that side. I kindly request you to please fix this problem, it's really annoying.

After the latest update, the notification bar on the top is filled with black color. Prior to this update, the white or dark or red(for junk calls) will spread uniformly even on the notification bar at the top. I hope y'all understand what I'm trying to say. I've also submitted a feedback via the app directly as well and reporting it here. Please revert this change so that the notification bar at the top shows the same color as the call screen.

Can't disable annoying call bubble during a call. Have to drag it down to 'hide' for every single call. This used to be possible by disabling draw over other apps but after a recent update this setting just gets enabled again on every call and there's no way to stop it. I do not need this annoying bubble and it just gets in the way – the ongoing notification is enough! I've sent feedback but it was ignored.

Feels like it was put together by people who do not use the phone feature on their mobile devices. There are a few possible tabs that come up when you open the app, but the keypad is not one of them. To open the keypad, there is a small icon in the bottom right - and if you are on the 'Recents' tab, it's *very* easy to misclick and immediately dial some number that's ~10th down. It just feels like shocking incompetence that the keypad is treated like a secondary feature.

On a number of occasions had the phone app not let me hang up a call, it says "hanging up" for 5 seconds plus and no matter what you press it won't end the call. There are other issues too boot one of which is when you make a call it will say "ringing" but be totally silent and you get the caller to answer or it hangs up the call. Not good as this is the only app you can use! This is all AFTER factory resetting the phone.

Hi, Alan. Try restarting your phone and make sure you have updated the Phone app to the most recent version. If that doesn't work, try clearing the app’s cache and storage or you may also uninstall and reinstall the Phone app. Hope this helps!
When I'm calling connected to a Bluetooth device. There is no option to use my internal phone microphone AND output the sound to Bluetooth. When I'm in the car calling to someone I can hear them well over the Bluetooth audio system. But the microphone of the Bluetooth is so bad, it's almost inauble. Very anoying there is no way to fix it. Please Google add a toggle to change the mic input.

Hi, Nelson. To switch among the earpiece, speakerphone, or any connected Bluetooth headset, just tap the Speaker icon. For more details, you may refer to this link https://goo.gle/33p5zi7. Hope this helps.
I'm using the Google Pixel 6 Pro (V.13). While the phone app definitely has some good features, earlier versions were easier to use. Searching for a number in your call history, trying to see how long a call lasted, etc., is EXTREMELY cumbersome. (It just seems so much easier on some other Android phones?) Is it just me, or are companies today making changes to software that don't necessarily improve the experience; like they're just making changes for the sake of making a change in many cases?

Generally it's pretty good as a phone and I don't have many issues. The option to add a wait ";" and dial an extension rarely works. This makes it challenging to work with meetings that have long extensions as I have to call, wait and time the extension just right. I wish the "add wait" feature was reliable... 😞
I'm not sure if it's the phone app itself or the devices running it, but it can be buggier than a swamp. 10% of calls go straight to voicemail without ringing, there's spottiness and dropping reminiscent of the early 2000s, and sometimes the app crashes when you enter a number and call it (as opposed to selecting from contacts). it would be nice if the phone app was the most reliable part of the phone!

Needs end-call-tone. Need voice options to be separated, not drop down option. Once you fix that, I will change review to 5 stars. Google, thanks for requesting that I elaborate. 1. When I end a call, I want to hear some kind of tone indicating the call has ended that way I don't have to look at my phone when I am using various Bluetooth devices. 2. The options for how I want to hear the other person on the line are all consolidated into one multi select button. Separate buttons is better.
