The design of the app is difficult to visually work with. There is little to no difference between a new email and an email that has already been open. Makes it impossible to quickly sort through emails and find particular ones. Also, the notifications of new emails are inconsistent. This goes for the text messaging app as well. Don't like it at all.

My emails don't come in unless I'm on the app... It's not just that I don't receive notifications, like they do not come in. I have to go to the app and wait for some seconds or a minute, or sometimes I have to be the one to refresh it, before emails start entering. That's pretty annoying!!! It's making me miss important emails as I am not one to wake up and go to check emails. I leave it up to the notifications to...well, notify me. As they should. As they're meant to. Kindly fix!!!

There is something seriously wrong with the syncing of this app. I have a S22 Ultra and this app does not notify me when a new email comes through. I have tried outlook and that works perfectly. I have tried everything to get it to work. Will be sticking to outlook for now. Please fix this.

The Gmail app fails to deliver timely notifications whenever my phone is locked. I have followed ALL of the steps suggested to make sure my account is set up correctly and have even allowed the app to make unrestricted use of my battery. Nothing works. Notifications can be delayed by anything from a few minutes to a few hours; unacceptable when you rely on notifications to run a business. The solution? Download Outlook - notifications work like a charm.

Option to open emails in Gmail is gone yet again. I open a lot of email links and want to be able to just hit the back arrow to close the browser, not have a million chrome tabs open. Also after going through all the steps to set up a label and notification for a specific sender, Gmail cannot reliably generate the notification. Sometimes it stops altogether, sometimes it comes in several minutes after the email is received, sometimes it works fine. I have made Outlook my primary mail app.

I will only give this app a two-star rating until such time that folders/labels can be created and deleted within the app. All other email apps that I have used have had the ability to create folders,and since this is a native Google app, these settings should be available. Also, there is no select all function which is common to most other email apps I've used. Very frustrating.

No sound nor pop up notification working. It's not the first time it happens, it's not my phone because it is happening in my tablet as well. Already checked settings on my both devices, and in the Gmail settings and everything seems OK, but no any kind of notification. And it's a must to have them both!!!!!!

Has stopped syncing and no matter what fix I try (reinstalling, re-adding accounts, checking all syncing options are on, ensuring space on Google drive, clearing cache etc. etc.) it will not sync. I agree with the email chain complaint as well below, it is terrible design and does not show an actual chain, it's just chaotic! Unfortunately Outlook is no better, focus view is ridiculous. But nothing will change so I'm just warning everyone!

The app completely quit working! It erased all of my emails and quit syncing to my phone. I had trouble for a few days of it not sorting out the spam mail and then today it quit working all together. All settings were stationary and nothing has changed with the usage. I've rebooted my phone and cleared cache but it still won't sync or give me any way to retrieve my emails. I can't retrieve ANYTHING! This app program is a disaster.

I'm happy with the app, but the tasks are a bit messed up. Whenever I leave the app in the tasks window and come back, the task page is blank. Then if I go to inbox and back again to tasks the tasks are visible again. A fix would be neat since I use tasks a lot. After the latest update for some reason it tends to get stuck loading my inbox too. I don't know if it's related.

It's workable, 4 star experience nominally; reliable aspects, only minor gripes about UI and conversations. It's 2 star because I'm no longer getting email notifications. At all. I have turned them klon and off, I have restarted my phone, I have even re-installed the app and nothing makes the notifications work. I'll forget to check them for a while and open the app to find ridiculous numbers of unread emails. It's just a massive, massive pain. Edit: can't read dev reply -.-

Too many ads. I can only see one email when I open the app! They are getting too large and invasive. Also if you delete them too fast after opening the app, they will keep reappearing. I have to swip away four ads rather than two. Sometimes they randomly appear while scrolling through my inbox and I click on them accidentally. Poor user experience. They need to be loaded in once and only once per session.

Yesterday I was getting so many spam emails, dozens and dozens of them, and they were not being filtered over to junk like they usually are. And then today the app doesn't work at all. It doesn't refresh, it won't sync, and I can no longer see new emails. I had to switch over to a Samsung email app just to access it. The latest update really messed the app up.

The ability to download pictures that are embedded into the email, instead being attached, seems to no longer work on the phone app. You now have to use the PC desktop version to download and save it If you have 3 friends named Bill, with an email address, and 2 of them have a phone number, and one does not, it will only show the names of those that have a phone number, when you type Bill into To: field. Why does the Gmail app require a phone number to show names and email addresses correctly.

something has gone wrong AGAIN. For at least the past week I've not been receiving notifications for new mail, unless I actively open the app. I've not changed anything. Not receiving notifications for emails despite checking all the phone and app settings are set up to sync and notify, unless open the app. WHEN WILL YOU FIX IT? I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS!!! All people's faces this problem

Downloading attachments and sending emails from non-Gmail addresses does not work, making this app next to useless. Nothing happens, not even an error message so I couldn't figure out what went wrong even if I wanted to. The Google drive integration would be nice if it actually worked. Searching through multiple inboxes doesn't work, I always have to search each one individually. And of course the app is filled with the usual Google bloat that has no place in an email client.

For sending and receiving emails, it does what it says on the tin. What I REALLY don't like is, when you get to the storage limit, you can't send or receive emails. What I find disgusting is that the storage limit includes photos and videos, not just email. Basically, holding your emails hostage until you either delete photos or videos or pay to increase your storage capacity.

UPDATE: thanks to the links that I was given the app works like a charm once more. It looks like I had to delete all data, not just cache. I changed my rating accordingly. (For the past few days the Gmail app freezes every time I try to open emails. In a few rare occasions the app ends up crashing. I updated the app but this did not fix the problem. I never had this problem in the past; meanwhile the emails open normally through desktop computers. Feel free to give me a tech support email.)

Overall, the app is pretty great. Straightforward, easy to navigate, and fairly easy to keep all emails organized. Being a user of the desktop version as well as the mobile version, I found it frustrating that you can only scroll through your filing system versus having the option to use a search feature to quickly get. It would also be nice to be able to utilize some more in depth settings without having to go to the desktop version. Still very happy with the app as a whole.

So I use this app a lot and it does what it says on the tin. Its ok but I have a few gripes. 1. The links in an email open in gmail. I would prefer a settings option to open them in the default browser. 2. You can't add new labels. 3. There is no select all option for emails and there is no bulk 'mark as read' option. Edit: It seems the advanced settings such as filter rules and auto forward on both the app and website have either moved or been removed. Downgrading my rating because of this.
