Magium Game DESCRIPTION

Disclaimer: The game is only available in English.

Magium is a DnD inspired text adventure game similar to old Choose your own story books (CYOA), in which you play as an ordinary guy named Barry, who joins a deadly mage tournament against the most powerful mages in the world in the hopes of using the prize to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a mage himself.

As in all interactive novels, your choices will affect the story, and making wrong choices can even lead to your death. Besides the traditional choice making of regular Choose your own path games, Magium also has stats that you can upgrade with points that you will receive occasionally, throughout the game. These stats will be checked by the game from time to time, to see if they are high enough to allow you to perform certain actions. For example, if your ancient languages stat is high enough, you can understand what animals and monsters are saying.

The story of Magium starts at the beginning of the tournament, right after you and all the other participants were transported to the continent where the contest was taking place, and it is set in a medieval fantasy setting, with a dash of futuristic looking magical devices, which are relics of an ancient, technologically advanced civilization that crumbled hundreds of years before the beginning of the series. The world in which the story takes place is somewhat inspired from Dungeons and Dragons, so if you’ve played DnD before, you will likely find some similarities, especially regarding the magic system.

As the story progresses, you will meet with other participants, you will make friends and enemies, and you will find out more about the continent you are on, and its inhabitants. You will find out that a person called “The Creator” had established several utopias in this place, six hundred years ago, where animals and humans lived in harmony, and food was created through magic. What you will get to see, however, is the downfall of these utopias, some of them being on the brink of destruction. Your choices will influence what happens in these cities, and you can even choose to save them if you so desire.

The game will be divided into six or seven books, each of them consisting of more than a hundred thousand words.

The first book is now available in its entirety, and it can be played for free. It is approximately 178k words long, which translates to about 700 book pages. This number also takes into account the story’s branching paths. The length of a playthrough on average should be about 90k words, so about 350 book pages.

The second book is now available in its entirety, but the next books have not been written yet, and they will be published chapter by chapter, as I write them. Unlike the first book, the second one will need to be unlocked before it can be played, and it will be the same for the next books as well. In order to unlock the second book, you will either need to complete 25 of the 35 available achievements, or pay to unlock it. All of the next books will also be unlockable in the same way.

The second book is 277k words in total, on all paths, which translates to about 1100 book pages. On one path, you should be seeing around half of those words, so roughly 140k, which would translate to 550 book pages or so.

I don't know if this is intentional or not but the game's height on bigger phones is incorrect, large black bars on the top and bottom screen and somehow the text looks very low res

Nanami

The game's very addicting. The flow of the story is excellent as it goes not too fast and not too slow. The characters are well-portrayed too including the villians. The stats are a good combination for the story's element of surprise. Most of all, the choices are relevant and important. When I played one of the chapters of Book 1, there is this little detail that I thought was just there to... You know, add up the story but it has a big impact at Book 2! Gosh, I want to play more and good job!

Awesome throwback to CYOA books, even more of a throwback to text adventure games I remember playing on Caxton computers, with actual floppy disks Love the lore - well thought out and consistent, vital for such an immersive experience that's expressed purely via text. Would love to proof read upcoming chapters, partly to play a small part; mostly to get the new chapters early... Unfortunately, there are no other games that are anything like it (happy to be proven wrong if any suggestions....)

The app keeps closing when I open the menu. I get taken out of the app but nothing bad happens to the save files and I get back where I left off although I'm not sure if it's because I get back to where I saved or my progress is untouched. Btw can we get another row of saves pretty please. I already ran out of saves trying to avoid having to play the whole thingy from the beginning in case the author decides to pull a genius move at the game's finale. Thank you for the amazing game. Deserves 5⭐

I've played this game before like 3 years ago, and I've just replayed it. Surprisingly it just as fun now as it was back then, even though I know the story. Loving the new chapters. My only gripe is the app seems to close automatically every once in a while but since it saves automatically anyways it hasn't really been too big of an issue. I did still want to mention it though. Otherwise its a 6 stars from me!

This game does not have any downsides. It's the only reason I decided to give text based games a try (don't bother looking as none match this one, "7 days" was a good runner up though). Don't mind the time it takes for the full book 3 to come out as I prefer the *quality* over quantity. It's one of those few games that give you the feeling that your choices actually matter. It's rated high for a reason. Don't have it installed since I got a new phone, will reinstall when it completes. (Updated).

I love the story that has been presented so far, I read it a few years back and found it amazing. However, recently I've found there seems to be a compatibility issue with my device since opening the app results in a black screen and I then can't interact with my phone at all unless I hard restart. I hope this issue can be fixed.

As far as choice based games go this one stands above the rest. The story is well writen and engaging, the caracters have depth, even the less important ones. The game features no ads and can be unlocked for free with achivements. The stats system is very well implamented. The only flaw that the game has is the slow relese of chapters, but it is more than worth the wait!

Cool story, i like the stats mechanic. Would be nice to have a way to skip through a chapter after beating it where you can pick a choice, it would be usefull for getting achievements. Work on the story as much as you like, as long as it upholds its current level of quality and actually releases this is a 5 star for me.

Ajith

It is great game, good story, good characters, low size, no ads. (To the creator of the app It would be good to add a confirmation before save/load. And an option to delete save files and to read the story from start(I sometimes forget how I got there and story may be different) Thanks for the great game. Thanks for adding achivement to unlock 2nd and 3rd book)

John

On book 1 chapter 8 at the time of this review. The story is very well put together and the mechanics are very easy to understand. Wrong choices often lead to death but are not too punishing. You can restart from the start of the chapter or the beginning of the adventure. There are 9 stats to put points into that can affect the outcome of your choices. Overall, I am really enjoying this app and look forward to continuing the adventure.

I used to play this years ago when it only had one chapter and forgot about it some point around the third one when I changed phones and forgot to reinstall it. Was always one of my favourite stories and I can't wait to get back into it. I love the characters and the world building and had so much fun being a part of this story I can't wait to dive back in.

This game is actually worth having. It is not too easy , as we gave to complete achievement to open next book ,which is a good thing. How people manage to give it 1 star is unknown (probably having some glitches). The story is finely written. U should add some images for a change. It is simply great. It does take time for new chapter but is worth waiting for. Ps add some color images, it can show us the faces and our surroundings. Dont go on the negetive reviews.

A very fun CYOA story; great characters and plot. The writing style isn't the most artful or descriptive thing I've ever seen but is by no means lacking. I've grown to quite enjoy it. You can unlock all of the content for free by completing achievements (most of which are simple to achieve). Be sure to save often throughout the story as you'll often want to go back on your decisions. My only complaint is that I'd like to have more save slots haha. Overall great game!

Guest

First of all, the story is interesting, each character has their own flair which makes you care for their growth. Every decisions made impacts the future and the transparent achievement made it easier to complete the game. There are few punctuation and grammar mistake but not at the level of confusing. Overall, it's a great game, looking forward for a finished book 3.

A wonderful story I plan to read over and over again! A short advertisement every other chapter isn't bad at all. I'm in love with the characters, and cannot get enough! *Update* Even if you're capable of unlocking chapters by revealing achievments I felt very strongly that I wanted to support the app and the writers for this wonderful interactive book that is seperated in 3 parts. Characters are unique, how you upgrade or build up the skills make it very interesting! Thank you!!

Guest

Wow, this game is everything I look for in a text adventure! First play through, I felt like it was very non linear, and that choosing any option other than the one I chose would bring me down a different path! Going back and unlocking the achievements however, I realized that there were small branches, but it'd always get back. But seriously, awesome game, you learn to love the characters, AMAZING story, heart wrenching deaths if you choose certain options, and definitely worth playing.

I don't buy many apps. I don't like many mobile games also. However, I was totally hooked by Magium. Simple concept, inspired by 80s books. I like the strory, even if it's simple. Also, the system isn't unforgiving as in the aforementionned books. You can spend points in various stats and you'll be able to advance the story. It's gonna be slightly different depending on your choices. The 3,99$ price is well spent, especially if it can help the author to continue the story after books 2 and 3.

Guest

Great game (book?), really. The writing isn't as flowery as normal fantasy goes, but that's the aesthetic with CYOA books. Straight to the point. Wouldn't mind rating a perfect 5 at all but there is this bug. Nothing major, but sure is annoying. After you open the app, it often doesn't let you scroll down. You have to close the app and reopen is several times before it scrolls again. Perhaps fix it? Thanks a bunch.

Guest

AWESOME!!!! I got it today and I spent HOURS playing! Then I went and unlocked the 2nd book by getting the achievements, since I can't pay. AWESOME!! Just upset I couldn't save... you know... at the end. Edit: There's been lots of crashes since the 2nd day, and after the 1st crash I'm not able to use it properly. Still a great game! This bug just gets annoying

I heard that the auto-saving to cloud feature is causing trouble for some people. Try deactivating the auto-save option from the cloud menu and see if the game works better.
