Stellarium Mobile App DESCRIPTION

Stellarium Mobile – Star Map is a planetarium app that shows exactly what you see when you look up at the stars.

Identify stars, constellations, planets, comets, satellites (such as the ISS), and other deep sky objects in real time in the sky above you in just a few seconds, just by pointing the phone at the sky!

This astronomy application has an easy to use and minimalist user interface, that makes it one of the best astronomical applications for adults and children who want to explore the night sky.

Stellarium Mobile features:

★ View an accurate night sky simulation of stars and planets for any date, time and location.

★ Dive in a collection of many stars, nebulas, galaxies, star clusters and other deep sky objects.

★ Zoom on realistic Milky Way and Deep Sky Objects images.

★ Discover how people living in other regions of the planet see the stars by selecting the shapes and illustrations of the constellations for many sky cultures.

★ Track artificial satellites, including the International Space Station.

★ Simulate landscape and atmosphere with realistic sunrise, sunset and atmosphere refraction.

★ Discover 3D rendering of the major solar system planets and their satellites.

★ Observe the sky in night mode (red) to preserve your eyes adaptation to darkness.

Stellarium Mobile contains in-app purchases allowing to upgrade to Stellarium Plus. With this upgrade, the app will display objects as faint as magnitude 22 (versus magnitude 8 in the base version) and enable advanced observing features.

Stellarium Plus features (unlocked with in-app purchase):

★ Reach the limit of knowledge by diving in a massive collection of stars, nebulas, galaxies, star clusters and other deep sky objects:
• All known stars: Gaia DR2 catalog of over 1.69 billion stars
• All known planets, natural satellites and comets, and many other minor solar system objects (10k asteroids)
• Most known deep sky objects: a combined catalog of over 2 million nebulas and galaxies

★ Zoom almost without limits on high resolution images of deep sky objects or planetary surfaces.

★ Observe in the field, even without internet connection, with a “reduced” set of data: 2 million stars, 2 million Deep Sky Objects, 10k asteroids.

★ Control your telescope through Bluetooth or WIFI: drive any GOTO telescope compatible with NexStar, SynScan or LX200 protocols.

★ Prepare your observing sessions using the advanced observation tools, to predict a celestial object observability and transit times.

Miles

The BEST app for beginner stargazers and above!! This shows you literally everything to find in the night sky - satellites, rocket debris, space stations, etc. And there are so many different sky cultures to set your map to, each with information on the constellations. It also has a real time map - point at the sky in the direction of your space spot and identify it immediately! The BEST education app out there, hands down.

Can't sort out the way to move apps to external memory (phone issue I'm assuming/\new phone).. app is great though.. self explanatory...I'd like a button to recent space news, or an actual section/button with a few of the most noteworthy cosmic news topics of the last couple weeks or month.. other than that I've been loving the app for several years on several different devices.. thank you.. only thing better would be me getting paid for using the app.... Well done...😁🫢🤫

Caleb

There isn't much to say about it except it does exactly what you need it to do and more. It's also fun to just play with it and see everything that's floating around above you, including satellites and the such. The Plus version (optional purchase) gives you some impressive HD views of planets and bodies as well.

Jessy

This app will not only show you a map of the night sky, but it will also give you information on what you're looking at so you can also learn at the same time as finding objects. The 3d models are pretty good for what they are, detailed in not only visuals but also goes further to give even more information on the objects as well when zooming on them. I would recommend this app for people looking to get into this hobby.

Vladimr

Useful, but with many drawbacks. If you put it in your pocket and look at some objects by your binoculars, the position on the map you carefully found is lost because it hopelessly tries to follow the device compass and accelerometers. Really stupid. There must be a way to fix the position of the map. People interested in astronomy do not need a map that follows the device. Also, you can't even see where the zenith is on the map. No grid lines are offered and all setings are behind a paywall.

Hello. Thanks for the feedback. You can disable sensors (point to sky) feature in the app's Menu (upper left corner) > Settings > Sensors so the app will not follow the device's movements. The desktop and web version of Stellarium is also completely free, if you prefer. It can be accessed at stellarium.org and stellarium-web.org

I have known Stellarium for long time, as a PC based program to identify sky objects and program schedule when to observe, etc. After some gap, I have now installed the mobile app. Amazingly user friendly. I have been trying to spot the comet C /2022 E3 (ZTF), but the light pollution and hazy sky were hampering a good view. However, today when the sky became a lot clearer, I was able to spot the comet! This would not have been possible without the accurate guidance obtained from this app.

Clark

This app is pretty good, but I wouldn't recommend the paid version for everyone... the reason being is that a lot of the planets' moons in our solar system are simply a visual copy of each other at different sizes. they aren't actually textured using images of the individual moons themselves 🫤

Gennifer

The app has some great features but every time I open it, it asks me to calibrate but it won't calibrate when I complete the required motions. The closest I got to a complete cal was 60%. The locations are therefore highly inaccurate when looking out at the sky
----------
Hello. Thank you for the feedback. For issues with calibration, please ensure that there are no magnet or metal pieces near the device as it can interfere with sensors and are usually found on device protection covers so please try removing the cover and re-calibrate (move device in all directions for 30s) Hope it helps.

Harry

Love this app, I've done astrophotography for a few year's now but never really knew what I was taking photos of! Now I can use this to identify and zoom in on an inconceivable number of stars! Especially good for tracking, like the recent green comet or identifying satellites. And I would definitely recommend the full version if you use it nightly like I do

Robin

Fantastic app for observing the night sky. Love that I can center on our planets and zoom right in on them. Lovely touch. Love the detailing of the images and being able to see images of all the planet's moons with great written details about the celestial bodies. The reason for the minus one star is that even on a clear day the auto sensors go out of whack. IE: North becomes east.... And it's extremely jittery to the point I can't just tap on an object. If the stability issue gets sorted 5*
----------
Hello. Thank you very much for the feedback. For issues with sensors, please ensure that no magnet or metal pieces near the device as it can interfere with sensors and are usually found on device protection covers so please try removing the cover and re-calibrate (move device in all directions for 30s to re-calibrate). Hope it helps.

Wrong location. Nice app. Stellarium plus. Keeping the app regardless. Capturing a location 500 kms away though. Just not able to align it. Rating it from 1 star to 4 as I am editing the review. Issue was resolved with a bypass given by the support tech. The auto-location capture is still cranky however manual entry of DMS coordinates seems to do the trick. And not to forget support gave a resolution within a few hours.

Andie

Very helpful little app for both the experienced and beginner observers. Lets you scan the sky with ease, allowing you to appreciate where you are in the night sky selecting as much information as you wish from the tools. The only things I would like to see improved are the level adjustments on both the brightness and the limit magnitude selector bar for more accuracy. Thanks to the creators for a wonderful app. Keep up the great work.

flowbert

It is wonderful to have a hand held planetarium. Artwork is beautiful and the celestial mechanics working in the background makes it intuitively easy use. It's easy and fun to use to pair up what I see in the sky with this device held up next the stars and planets! It's a great teaching tool too. As someone who has navigated by the stars for a living, this is fantastic for finding the optimal stars for triangulation. Perfect!

Tonycomb

No the app constantly pops up a menu telling me calibration is that 50%. I have tried everything. Standing in the middle of a field with no metal objects, phone case off of my phone doing figure eights for like 30 minutes combined looking like a dumbass everywhere I go trying to use this app but the notification constantly keeps popping up when I try to use it. It didn't do this until I updated. Samsung Galaxy S8...woot woot. The app seems to be really nice up until this issue.

The best app for sky mapping i have ever used in my life. Great graphics. Great simple ui. Accurate location. I have no complains at all. Worth it. And im considering to go for the paid version and will go for it soon definitely. Recommended for sure. Note : i never used any professional level sky mapping before and im pretty sure there is better way out there for sky mapping but for average people like us,this is the best.

MaiBaddd

Update: Finally got the calibration to work! Love it so far. Calibration stuck at 50% and hasn't moved. I paid for the premium version of this app while living in Alaska. But I haven't been able to calibrate it. I thought it was just my location. But I have since moved and traveled through a whole bunch of states, trying to calibrate it as I go but it hasn't been able to get pass 50%. Am I doing something wrong? I have reset the settings every time I open the app. I have a Samsung Note 9.
----------
Hello. For issues with calibration, please check that no magnet or metal are near the device as it can interfere with sensors and are usually found on device protection covers so please try removing cover and re-calibrate. Feel free to email us with details about your device if issues continue so we can better check.

I've tried several astronomy apps. So far, I've found this the most complete and accurate of the free apps I've tried. I haven't tried any of the paid options. (I have not been too active with my astronomy interest lately. If I get back into it, I would definitely consider paying for the extras.) I've used the Windows desktop version and enjoyed it for years. It came with the nice telescope my in-laws bought my son. The desktop and Android versions are wonderful apps. I definitely recommend!

Skulls

Incredible, esp high quality for a free app. Non-invasive ads, easy to navigate sky (size/brightness matches with what you see in the Southen/Northern Hemispheres, can even spot satellites moving super fast - if you can find em!). Just wish it had meteor showers included, but there's another app for that (Star Tracker?).

Rhys

Of all the non-work apps on my phone, it's this I'm most impressed with. It feels very mature, quite powerful for a phone app. I purchased it outright after deciding they deserved it. It combines a decluttered UI with easy configurability once you know where to find things. You can set the dimmest star you want to be able to see, either to match the darkness of your local skies, or to concentrate on the major stars. Live position of Jupiter's moons, loads of satellites. Good time navigation.

Riq

After having been contacted by the developers, My initial complaint has been addressed. While I always felt this sky-mapping app was beautiful, I became quickly frustrated with not being able to use the phone gyroscope. This is now fixed as you just need to tap the compass icon below the screen, which I honestly never noticed in the past. I'll say it was an oversight, and not paying attention. Now, point, aim, and see parts of what you want to see in the sky on your screen effortlessly. A+
----------
Hi. To activate sensors, press the compass button on bottom center of screen and point the back of device to sky and screen should move with device. Please also ensure that no magnet or metal are near the device, such as on device protection covers. If issues continue, please email us with details about your device so we can better check.
