Neutralizer App DESCRIPTION

Neutralizer is an equalizer made for sound restoration in mind, contrary to many other products that offer ready made profiles for sound distortion. Everybody is different and everybody’s hearing is different. You have to test your hearing on devices that take active part in sound reproduction in order to be sure that any adjustments you make will work for you. We offer simple to use interface that needs very little explanations. It is self explanatory. And it is elegant.

Why Neutralizer?

If you would like to improve your listening experience on a mobile device, you would mostly come into conclusion that you need a better hardware. Although in most situations it might be true you don’t always know why.
This is because of so many parameters you have to take into account like: the digital to analog conversion, the signal frequency range, the amplification path, the speakers (or headphones) frequency response, the psychoacoustics and so on. You can measure each of the parameters, but to measure them all you only have one device—your ears.

One way to improve your hearing ability is to use sound enhancers like equalizers. Most of them distort sound quality but if you use it wisely, you can minimize the deficiencies of your acoustic tract. The key word here is “wisely”.
In order to do it wisely you have to make some tests to discover the problem.
And that’s what Neutralizer does. It tests your hearing ability in key frequency ranges and adapts the system equalizer to take it into account. As simple as that.

Current limitations: the sad fact is that Neutralizer will not work for everybody. There are mobile devices not compatible with our solution that don’t allow third party apps to control system equalizer. We are working towards a solution to satisfy everybody, but for the time being your mileage may vary. It is, what it is. Please don’t give us bad rating because of this. We told you so.

Great concept but the interface needs work or maybe better documentation. I have the paid version which supports multiple device profiles. Profile creation is intuitive and works well. The app seems to detect which device is connected and switches to the correct profile. The problem is when I have *no* device connected (just the internal speaker) and the app remains active. It would be nice if the app would only activate when a device is connected (i.e., when needed)

I've been into the audio hobby for decades. But, as I've gotten older, I've lost sensitivity at the treble end of the spectrum. After going through the test, and some follow up profile tweaking, I can hear things on tracks that I haven't heard for years. Made my already good audio setup sound even better. Thank you

Kyle

I have been looking for something like this! I have had multiple ear surgeries due to otosclerosis, and my right ear is much worse than my left. If you were able to develop a left- right equalization, I think many people would benefit, and pay for the feature. It would be much better than just going into settings in android and changing the balance.

Jazz

This has the potential to be great, but misses the mark. Leveling out the volumes is a breezy and fun process. And when it's working it does its job admirably. But where it goes wrong is that its notification is easily misswiped away with all of the other temporary/disposible notifications that users are always managing. So quickly, out the window goes Neutralizer's background processing. To make matters worse, the app doesn't have a "launch at boot" option to enable. This app needs an overhaul.

Matt

Love it. Just what I was looking for. As sort of stated in the description, this app will typically only work for music applications that do not talk directly to your hardware. However, even then you can use the graphical info it provides to recreate the results in those apps' in-built EQ. SUGGESTIONS: 1: That the app would test and adjust for each ear separately. 2: That the app would allow you to tell it which specific profile to use by default for each connection type. Thanks!!

*** THIS IS A 6⭐APP***Does exactly what it says it will. And honestly it not only does it's job well, but it does a better job than some audio enhancement apps that I have paid $10 a month subscription fees for, just to be sorely disappointed down the road. Uses a clever approach to frequency isolation and adjustment, to give each user a near perfect listening experience. No better app of its type out there. DEFINITELY AM EXAMPLE TO BE FOLLOWED BY OTHER DEVELOPERS IN IT'S CLASS!!! GOOD JOB

Andrew

I very very rarely leave reviews, but after using this, I definitely had to give this 5 stars. I'm really big into sound, and to be able to tune sound to my ears is a really awesome thing to be able to do. The app is alittle confusing at first, but to keep it short and sweet, you raise and lower the volume until you can't hear the sound it emits. You do this for every hertz range until you are finished. Turn it on and forget it's running! Go download this now.

This app is soooo worth it. I have autism and as a result very sensitive hearing. Certain pitches in music hurt my ears. The problem with that is if I turn the volume down I can't to avoid them I can't hear the rest of the music. This app runs a program to determine your hearing threshold, then tunes the music to your specific hearing. I can now enjoy all the wonder low sounds in my music that I couldn't at low volume without having to cringe from the super high pitches like before.

Ibrahim

This app will change the way you listen to music. I neutralized my earphones, and to my surprise they sounded almost exactly the way I wanted them to. And of course you can make any tweaks you want after that. Oh and did I mention it has 10 bands (unlike most equalizer apps which only have 5)? I'm totally on board with EQ now that I've used this app. I wonder if there's anything similar for desktop? Having an export feature would be great (I'm not really sure what the percentages mean).

I've had issues with my car stereo seemingly missing whole frequencies, even with tireless combinations of the car's and phone's EQ, paired with Samsung adapt sound, I was unable to create a decent audio quality. The result was always strained levels or compromising ranges for others. With Neutralizer I have achieved the full rich sound I have been lacking. I was able to hone the ranges my stereo struggles to output and even better yet, it runs globally on my phone and can be switched off/on.

Matt

This is great! But it does kind of need a makeup control (auto or manual) to compensate for the overall change in volume that can occur from the EQ - that would make it much easier to A/B the effect. Extra credit: allow switching between the white noise+warble and any music playing from another source while tweaking (ie, operating more like a conventional EQ).

HTC 10 Evo. Headphones are phenomenal, but the onboard speaker leaves a lot to be desired. (I feel like they should've gone with dual front speakers again) Neutralizer helped me to tune it to a reasonable level allowing crisp, clear audio at high volume levels. As an added bonus, my speaker no longer sounds like its going to rip itself apart. I stop and turn this on EVERY time I play audio out of the main speaker.

VERY IMPORTANT USE CAUTION BOSE QC-- I own this app after succumbing to hyperacusis following a sever bout of Bell's Palsy and it has been extremely helpful. However, and this is not something inconsequential, while setting up a new profile to adjust to my condition a year post, I was on the final setting 10khz, which is the only one I'm above 75%. It seems the bose couldn't modulate this particular freq and after the safety buffer lag it came on at an incredibly high volume. Suffice to say...

This app is fantastic. I've had hearing problems my whole life. Each ear loses frequency ranges differently. I've never been able to tweek any equalizer to get the best sound on earphones, Bluetooth speakers, car sound system, etc. Neutralizer allows me to easily get the right sound balance in each situation. It's wonderful. Thank you so much.

Elijah

This is an underrated app. IMO if you are serious about listening to music on your phone, Neutralizer is a must have. Think about it: for any listening output, or even devices that change acoustic properties, the one thing that is kind of a constant is your hearing. Doesn't is make sense to baseline off of that? The app is simple to use, does what it says, and the principle is universal enough to bring life to even mediocre speakers or headphones. Just wish it had an option to start on boot.

Laura

I have some low pitch hearing loss as well as higher pitch sensitivities, so I've spent YEARS fiddling with eq settings on every device just to be able to listen without cringing or feeling like everything sounds muddy. Music has always been a huge part of my life and it's been getting ridiculous, having to spend extra for the nicer earbuds/headphones just so I can enjoy using my ears. This app though...first time I can remember being able to listen to music and hear all of the tones I want and none of them that make my ears hurt to the point of ruining the experience (even at low volumes). If you have finicky ears or hearing problems, I highly recommend this app. Didn't realize how much I was missing until I was able to hear it again.

Donald

Update: once you tune up your device using this app, you have to leave it running in the background to allow it to equalizer your audio output to your sound device, whether it be earbuds, a headset or speakers. It works well with Bluetooth or phone jack output. I haven't tried it with Wi-Fi Direct yet. Also, since this app has no presents for different styles of music or environments, you have to create setup for each situation. I'm not sure how you would go about creating set ups for different styles of music as this app is designed to let you fine tune your sound output to your ears for the best audio quality for your environments and equipment. This app is not an equalizer in the normal terms that most think about. Instead it allows you to fine tune your device to the speaker or headphone/earphones you are using. It does this much like you would when going to get a hearing test so that you can get a hearing aid adapted to your specific hearing. Only in this case you are fine tuning the frequencies in the audio output to you sound producing device and to you specific hearing. Being an Electronics Engineering Technician with over 40 years experience with both audio, video, industrial & medical electronics working both with analog and digital devices, I find this app the most impressive app for smartphones & tablets I've seen and experienced to date. Clearly the developer has similar knowledge & experience.

Alexande..

Better than any other equalizer app out there for non-root users. Works great on my Note 9; built-in speakers, wired headphones, or Bluetooth. Just wish I could change the notification priority so there wasn't a constant icon on my bar. Only other alternative to this app that I've found that works is poweramp, but that's paid and doesn't work with stuff like Play Music.

David

Holy f------g hell. I was testing Neutralizer out and things seemed fine until I hit the edit profile pencil while audio was playing. It suddenly cranked the audio up to an insane level--it was actually quite painful. It was far, far louder than I've ever gotten audio from my phone before. Be careful! This was really very painful. On a Pixel XL, Android 9, Jet Audio Plus, Sennheiser Momentum M2. Easy to reproduce - - tap the pencil, audio is briefly pegged to a crazy level. I like listening to loud music, but this was way over the top.

Jared

As a live (outdoors) and FOH (front of house) audio engineer, and studio engineer on mixing and mastering, I must say, the ability to apply a correction to the device of choice's equalization is extremely helpful. I personally use this app for my in ear monitors and speakers, as I can test or look up frequency responses on the devices. Great app, but needs an option to decrease volume of test tone.
