Open Food Facts App DESCRIPTION

▶ Scan, find & compare more than 1,3 million food products

The app allows to scan the 1,3 million products already contained in the free and open database Open Food Facts.
The app is collaborative. If we don’t have the product, you can add pictures and data to get the Nutri-Score and NOVA score on food processing.

In short, we’re kind of “the Wikipedia of food”, as many have nicknamed the project. Open Food Facts has enabled the creation of over 100 apps like Date Limite, Yuka or FoodVisor.

Very insightful, great app, easy to use

Andrew

The app provides you with information to assist you in making better choices for your health and the environment.

Peter

A great app if you want control what you put in your body and the environmental impact of your choices.

Iolo

Good idea, but the database is currently limited. I pointed this app at a dozen things in my fridge and cupboards from my local supermarket here in England and three quarters of the foods were unrecognised. So I'm uninstalling until such time as the database has been expanded. I am too busy to be sending data and photographs to the creators of this program.

Ben

Just downloaded this and find it very interesting. We hope to use it to alter our eating habits for the better, although you begin to get a 'feel' for products the more you learn about the food processing process in general. We definitely will be eating healthier in the future with the help of this App. Some food are not recognised, for instance, supermarket own products or new branded items, so it takes time but most big brand or recognised products were found - keep up the enlightenment!

SCIFI

The more the users the better. It's just sad that most users are idle and don't interact enough. Edit: the website is not working, what is going on 😭
----------
Hi SciFi lover, We had a technical issue last night (French time). It is now fixed. Thanks for the kind words, Pierre

omar

app very interesting need more improvement but still better than more other good luck for the rest..

Nigel

it takes a little getting used to but is very powerful and is an impressive piece of coding. Please stick with it, it's worth it. Update: thanks Pierre will contact you offline.
----------
Hi Nigel, First, thanks for the kind words. Second, could you describe "the little getting used to" so that we can improve it ? You can send a lengthier response @ contact@openfoodfacts.org and we'd be eager to chat about it. Pierre

Great idea, great app! I love it and it's getting more and more useful in todays world of dangerous food and/or ingredients. Personally, I have been adding multiple items as well and continue to do so as to be useful for many more people.

Timothy

This is a wonderful app that lets you see what nova food group a food item belongs to just by scanning the barcode. I imagine the food industry hates this app because it exposes the junk they try to get us addicted to.

Ivo

Why I can't uninstall this from my device? I have tried everything, and I don't want reset my phone because of your app. The installer crashes no matter which app I try with.
----------
We have not had this issue reported to us before, and to our knowledge, Open Food Facts does not do anything special that could cause this. Have you tried removing it from the Google Play Store ? Directly by longpressing the app from your phone ? Is your phone memory full (that could explain the issue) ? Pierre

Elizabet

It just stops scanning anything and keeps asking for money. A waste of time and effort

Thomas

I do like the idea of the app but unfortunately is quite buggy to use on my phone e.g. once i entered nutrients for a product I simply cannot delete them anymore. I can still add/edit products through the web interface.
----------
Hi Thomas, The mobile team has solved this problem. The fix will be available in the next version. If you have other problems, please contact us at contact@openfoodfacts.org. best, Pierre

Rosibian

App looks interesting but scaning doesn't work on Nokia g60 - First impression...then after closing app and opening again appears to work...I will write more after using it for a while.

Tim

The app looks good and I would like to make use of it, but the scanner doesn't work. I can see the video, but not scan.

Ananto

Great Idea but stop continously using the camera! Not only that it keeps scanning the bar code with incorrect values, point at one bar code searches for 8 items with different numbers. Bar code scanner needs to open on tap and not be continous.

Noam

Inputting data is tedious and it often fails to update. So you have to enter data 3 or 4 time before it takes. There is no way to view nutrition info by serving. It always defaults to nutrion per 100g, but I have never seen anything measured by 100g in my life. There's a drop down to change to display per serving, but it doesn't do anything. You have to edit nutrition info to see per serving data. As all info is shown in non-existent 100g, using the app is very uninformative and tedious.

Antoine

Great idea, bad redesign. This app and the associated website are the best thing to know what you have in the plate in front of you. But the change of interface don't help it. It's difficult to navigate, you can't find the producer details as before, photo "enhancement" is buggy, it hogs on your camera as soon as it's opened (you must kill it to regain control)...
----------
Salut Antoine, Pourrais-tu nous envoyer un mail depuis la section "contact" de l'app, ça nous serait utile pour le débogage, et pour plus de précisions sur ce qui te manque dans la V2 Pierre - au nom du reste de l'équipe

Nathan

I find the new redesign much harder to use & navigate, and even missing the feature for which I installed it and used the most. I liked the previous design with the simple navigation bar at the bottom. The reason I first installed the app was because I am required to keep track of my carbs, and using the feature that calculates the nutrition info for a specific amount was extremely useful. If the feature does still exist, I can't find it, and the app is just overall hard to navigate.
----------
Hi Nathan, sorry the new design is not working for you. We are still working on perfecting it, so we appreciate your feedback. Hopefully you can still find our website useful. Best, Open Food Facts team

Balaji

Interesting concept, and lots of useful information. The user interface is a little confusing initially, and when you scan a product, you have to find that product in your scan history to get more details about it (or I am missing something in the confusing and clunky interface). But the clear grading of products makes it easy to complete a grocery shopping trip without having to read a bunch of labels if you are buying products you have not bought before.
