The Palace Project App DESCRIPTION

Palace is a free, easy-to-use e-reader app that lets you find, check out, and read or listen to books from your local library.

It’s been said that libraries are “palaces for the people” and the Palace app gives you instant access to your local “palace” any time, right from the palm of your hand.

All you need to sign up is your library card! And even if your library isn’t using Palace yet, you can still read more than 10,000 books–from children’s books to classics to foreign language books–for free from our Palace Bookshelf.

The Palace app is built and maintained by The Palace Project, a not-for-profit division of LYRASIS working in partnership with Digital Public Library of America with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. For more, visit https://thepalaceproject.org.

Update issue resolved and now there isn't a problem. Crashing. After the update I can no longer listen to audio books. It keeps crashing down.

I was interested in the Banned Book Club, the only collection I thought I could check out from. After turning off several of my security settings to ensure the app (which was giving me vague geolocation errors) could find my location, my library card was denied. That's b/c my county isn't in the allowed list. This is despite the censorship efforts forcing my library to close. Palm Beach already had better access to these books than my county does! Sadly, though, there are no ebooks here for me.
----------
Hi A.M. Lynn--thanks for your interest in the Palace app! If you contact bannedbookclubhelp@dp.la our support team should be able to assist with any virtual library card/geolocation issues.

Linda

App still crashing, waited months on an audiobook, just to now not being able to hear it cause app crashes when it is tried to open. The loan is about to expire now, too!

Keels

I live in Jacksonville Florida. Looking for any Florida libraries. Can't find any. 2 stars till I find out if you work with any libraries in FL.
----------
Hi Keels, We currently partner with the SEFLIN consortia in Southeast Florida, but are always interested in expanding our service. We recommend you speak to your local library about your interest in Palace.

Debbie

Am able to read a book on my phone but it does not sync my location with my android tablet so I can't switch between devices while reading a book.
----------
Hi Debbie, thanks for reaching out! In order to sync between devices, you'll need to ensure device syncing is enabled in the Palace app on both devices. Please go to "Settings" > "Libraries", you'll then select your library and turn on "Sync Bookmarks". This should save both bookmarks and reading placement between devices.

Michael

Really poorly done app. I'm logged into 3 libraries on the app but can't switch between the different library catalogs. Can only view the one most recently added. Why allow adding multiple libraries if you can only access one of them. Really a stupid app. No help or instructions at all.
----------
Hi Michael, thank you for reaching out. There are two ways to toggle between libraries. The first is to click on the Palace icon, which will pull up the list of libraries you've added. The second is to go to "Settings" > "Libraries" > and select the preferred library. For more assistance, contact us at support@thepalaceproject.org.

Corinne

App shuts down every time I try to listen to an audiobook. It's updated and compatible with my device, just won't play audiobooks. Disappointed that my library switched to Palace.
----------
Hi Corinne--thanks for trying the Palace app! We’re sorry to hear that your experience with the app was less than satisfactory. If you contact us at appreview@thepalaceproject.org with the specifics surrounding your experience, we’re more than happy to investigate the problems further.

Margaret

This does not even rise to the level of a beta test app. No way to log in and get to a book I checked out on my other device. No help. No support or feedback. The About Palace option under settings just says The Palace Project with absolutely no detail. No decent search facility.
----------
Hi Margaret! Users aren't prompted to log in to their library until they go to borrow a title. If you'd like to log in to see existing borrowed content, please go to Settings>Libraries and select your library. You should only need to do this once. For additional issues or feedback, please contact us at appreview@thepalaceproject.org

Chris

Wonderful layout for one who enjoys being spoonfed mediocrity. Reminiscent of navigating the Oregon Trail UI some thirty odd years later...
----------
Hi Bobby Vex. We’re sorry to hear that your experience was less than satisfactory, and we’ve forwarded your feedback to our developers. We’re a small non-profit team working to support the mission of libraries, and that starts with providing a good user experience. Your feedback is valuable to us and will aid in our continued improvements.

Gotta have ur library card handy for digital downloads. As an anti-social, I can understand the benefits to, say, ordering takeout. But really though, the most use this can be is the fact that it is digital. I just don't understand the idea of borrowing a book over the internet. A 500 page fiction book isn't an NFT. Those are dumb.

Susan

Android - Pixel 7 Pro Logged in fine. Search worked well. Nothing else works. I was able to get one ebook to "reserve" and after four minutes it showed up in "My Books" with an option to "Read". Clicked that ....spun for another four minutes...then failed. Rinse and repeat. Tried to "return" said ebook. Spun for four minutes....error message. Tried again with another book ... Spun for four minutes....error message. Over and over. I've sent error reports via the app. Needs work.

Milo

Generally fine, but in need of QOL improvemens. The UI is a bit clunky, but my main concern is the lack of support for Pixel Bud inputs ie:tap to pause, pause on removal, etc. This is important functionality for my work environment.

Patrick

After using Libby, this app is awkward and a pain to use. Why is there no Microsoft version?
----------
Hi Patrick and thank you for using the Palace app! We’re sorry to hear that your experience with the app was less than satisfactory. If you contact us at appreview@thepalaceproject.org with the specifics surrounding your experience, we’re more than happy to relay your feedback to our engineers.

Scottie

The search engine cannot produce similar results, and the selection of materials is minimal and unfavorable. Then, there isn't any option to save said materials. Finally, it's only books and audiobooks.
----------
Hi Scottie, we’re sorry to hear that your experience with the app was less than satisfactory. We’re a small team working to support the mission of libraries, and that starts with providing a good user experience. Please know that your feedback is valuable to us and will aid in our continued improvements to the Palace app.

Misc

Is this incompatible with Talk Back right now? Within a book, there's no (or at least no obvious) way to turn the page with it enabled. And the back button was unlabeled. Are any android screen readers supported?
----------
Hi and thank you for using the Palace app! We take customer feedback seriously and would love to hear more about your experience. Palace is built on Readium, and should work with Talk Back. If you could reach out to us at appreview@thepalaceproject.org with more info, we'd love to look into this further.

Sylvia

Keeps buffering. Cannot get in

Monika

Simple and straightforward access to CT libraries digital collections! Would love more categories included under fiction, such as crime or mystery. And the search function is fairly bare bones. But overall very clean UI!

Bijish

Not so many audio books..may be it's due to my local library..But there are much better options available for library books
